White Water Rafting
Another water adventure — Class III–IV rapids on the Rio Savegre.
Rappel down tropical waterfalls, jump into jungle pools, and navigate spectacular canyon terrain in Costa Rica's most dramatic rivers.
Canyoning — also known as canyoneering — is the art of descending river canyons using a combination of rappelling, swimming, jumping, and scrambling. In the right location, it's one of the most viscerally thrilling adventures in nature tourism. Near Manuel Antonio, where the mountains meet the jungle and clean mountain rivers carve spectacular canyons on their way to the Pacific, the conditions for canyoning are exceptional.
Our Manuel Antonio canyoning tour takes you to pristine jungle canyon sites where you'll encounter a sequence of increasingly impressive waterfall rappels. The day begins with a safety briefing and rappelling technique session — your guide demonstrates the technique, you practice on lower sections, and then the full sequence begins: 4–6 rappels of varying height interspersed with natural water slides, river swims, and pool jumps that deliver pure adrenaline in the most spectacular natural settings.
The canyon environment itself is extraordinary — towering rock walls draped in tropical vegetation, the sound of water amplified into something almost orchestral by the narrow canyon, the crystal clarity of the mountain river glowing green and turquoise in the filtered jungle light. Waterfalls cascade into deep pools surrounded by primeval forest that few visitors ever reach.
Canyoning combines physical challenge with genuine wonder. By the end of the tour, guests often describe it as the most simultaneously terrifying and exhilarating thing they've ever done — and immediately ask when they can come back to do it again.

No prior experience is required. Your guide teaches all the techniques needed for safe rappelling before you start. The canyoning sequence progresses from easier, shorter rappels to more challenging ones, building your skill and confidence throughout. Most guests are surprised at how quickly they become comfortable on the ropes.
Canyoning requires a reasonable level of physical fitness — you'll be swimming, scrambling over wet rocks, and rappelling for 4–5 hours. The terrain is challenging but not extreme. A good level of fitness, comfort with water, and an adventurous spirit are the main requirements.
The canyoning sites near Manuel Antonio are in pristine jungle with crystal-clear mountain water. Unlike some tourist canyoning experiences, these are genuine wild canyons with almost no development — just waterfalls, forest, and the sound of rushing water. The combination of adventure and natural beauty is hard to beat.
